Cathedral 8th graders Addie Korensky and Nam Ninh were recognized by Elks Lodge #80 on March 4th as "Teens of the Year". Below is a description of how each outstanding student soars!
Parents: Todd & Patricia
Addie is a quiet leader at Cathedral. She is a member of the Dignity Ambassadors, Advocates of St. Angela Merici, and is a member of St. Cecilia Choir. She also gives of her time as a member of Safety Patrol and as a Peer Helper. She is always the first to volunteer her time wherever help is needed. Addie is a hard-working, conscientious student. She leads by example and is always on task during class time. She takes pride in her work and expects the best from herself.
A story to demonstrate Addie’s servant-leadership approach: at our school the younger children are dropped off at an entry point each morning. It can be a bit intimidating because of the cars, kids, and bad weather. Addie – whether alone or with other friends – spends her mornings approaching each vehicle, warmly welcoming the child, helping them with their materials, and then walking the child hand-in-hand to the door to start their day. Rain or shine, cold or hot, Addie makes sure each young student starts their day the right way – with a smile and a friend.

Nam is a charismatic and driven young man and he uses those skills to be a leader among his classmates. He makes solid decisions and seeks to be a role model for fellow students. Nam works hard and is dedicated to doing well in school. He is a member of the Cathedral Dignity Ambassadors, Soldiers of St. Sebastian, St. Cecilia Choir, Mathcounts, and reads at school Masses. Nam was also participates in Eagle athletics and participates in cross country, basketball, and track.
A story to demonstrate Nam’s courage and character involves the Junior Achievement Junior High business he runs at our school as part of our Capstone project. Nam’s company, named Wearable, produces amazing t-shirt designs. They’ve been quite successful because Nam has kept them cutting-edge. For instance, when Scott Frost was hired as the new Husker head coach Nam immediately designed a “Stay Frosty Nebraska!” t-shirt. Unfortunately, the University caught wind and told Nam to cease production. Nam’s response” He wrote a letter to the university stating his rights as a business owner, and his perspective on the rights to material. Nebraska stepped back and Nam’s business continues to sell the shirt.
A dynamic, hard-working, and driven young man – congrats to Nam Ninh.
Elks Club represrentatives said, "This is one of our greatest Elk events because it's about investing in our future. We value character and hard work above all else. The students here exemplify that, and that is a big credit to their amazing families."
Roughly a dozen Lincoln-area schools were represented at the award banquet, including Diocesan friends St. Teresa's, Blessed Sacrament and St. John's.
